Not enough rain..

There once was a time for sloughing
what we had was gone
dampened by infidelity
You said I did nothing wrong

No rain fell there to rinse away
aching arteries
barricaded by loves locked chains
heart and soul still cindery

There was not enough rain to wash
away fallout left
letting particles cling about
irretrievably bereft

Along came the rain to erase
old ways of feeling -
refreshing downpour, detailing,
waxing, waning, then healing

Now hovering on my shoulders,
a white cloud holding
no rain, for the heart, mind and soul
together are enthroning

  1. oy what a feeling...you did nothing wrong...that sucks because its takes away anything you could have done to change it and you feel powerless...my fav part...aching arteries
barricaded by loves locked chains...that whole stanza has some cool ABC stuff going on...

  4. I just visited a neighboring blog that sang her poem...which was really song lyrics. Somehow, your words made me want to hear this sung as well in a heartbreaking blues kind of way. Beautiful.

and you hold no power to stop it... love that use of nature.. really set the poem's tone.

  13. Beautiful Katy ~ I love the metaphorical meaning of the rain ~ Also, the words are more compact and carefully chosen ~

And kudos to making the font bigger and bolder, it is now very easy to read ~

    1. Thanks Grace - I'm still having trouble with the template, though, in that I've tried unsuccessfully to change the color of the fonts in the footer links..it's as if they are 'set'. I appreciate your help.

  14. I agree with other comments: the rain is powerful imagery here, for healing that has to take place.

  17. The whole world can look cleaner after the rain, all debris washed away, it's a very strong metaphor for healing on the inside. Very nice!

  18. There is something about the word 'bereft' that is deeply moving, sadder than sad.

  20. I felt tears well up. The rain tastes of salt yet after the rain, even the most tender gain strength. This is beautiful.
