Easy like a breeze..

Let me loose -
to fly alone in the air,
but hold tight the tie that binds
Let the wind hoist me up,
it's ruffles lightly carry me,
to be billowed by invisible undulating
waves, weightless,
the sun on my shoulders

I want to know
how it feels to float -
without everyday cares
Watch me soar in the sky,
 twist and turn everywhere,
burdens lifted and without fear,
flying freely for awhile
lift me up so I can see the view,
how far I want to go

Let me fly like a kite,
keep company with birds,
but keep me tethered to your hand
I'm not ready to leave you yet
Rein me in after I sail;
when I am sate, I will land -
 grateful for everything,
yet all the more will I
 appreciate

This if for  dversepoets.com  dVerse   today where we are writing responses to the wonderful photography by  Totomai Martinez.  Check out his flicker photostream.

  1. i have always dreamed of flying...not like superman, but as a bird...letting my wings power me...and drift...ah...
i like that you want to stay tethered as well...as i think that keeps us grounded in our reality...i would never want to lose that...smiles.

  2. It would be wonderful to feel how it is to float, I think. Perhaps the closest I come to that feeling is floating on water in a swimming pool. Smiles. But to be up there with the birds & kites would truly be amazing. I like the idea of, though flying, being tethered to safety. Makes sense to me!

  3. If I had any guts, I would have taken up hang gliding, or ultra-light flyers. Yet hot air balloons do not get me excited; go figure. our poem really rocks the Totomai image. Cool about your grandmother's mission bell collection; can't imagine owning some of the big ones, gosh.

  6. What a beautiful blog this is. I love the shells, and see we are near neighbors! I enjoyed your poem very much - the soaring, but wishing to still remain tethered, not ready to leave yet. I resonate!

  7. I like the idea of being both free and attached. Isn't it what we all yearn for, in some ways or other?

  8. I have to smile when I see serendipity like this in response to a prompt--even though we didn't choose the same photo. I think there is a freedom in his photography that does soar and took us where it did. Lovely.

  9. ah, to be free... sometimes I don't feel like we're there yet... would be refreshing to soar and be above all that wish to tear us down.... Maybe I should go skydiving? smiles...

  10. Perfect poem, I think, for a child to wish to say to the parent. Oh! I know that I could have used it them!

  11. wonderful metaphor here. Like kites can only continue to fly if they are anchored, so we can only truly "fly" if we have those who will keep us grounded.

  12. Although I have favourited the whole poem, the last verse is special to my heart. Your take is very simple yet managed to be the most inspiring piece of the day. Thanks, Katy, for this lovely, touching poem. I truly enjoyed it. Smiles.

  14. I so like the sentiment of this as a metaphor. To be free yet have a line to be connected - somewhere to land. Especially the last stanza moved my heart.

  15. These feelings resonate really well. We all crave freedom, we want to be let loose. we want to fly. But we are not quite willing to let go of the security of holding on, we still want that steady support.

  20. This gave me the feeling of freedom desired, but not without fear....a stepping stone between security and independence.
