Art on My Wall

What is on your wall?

Wall Hanging

This basket creation recalls a primitive time,
embedded in my heart of hearts,
It signifies a previous era,
and even though I was not there,
only a twinkle in my parents' eyes,
it yet imparts
exist in a future sense.

Another tense,
a timelessness.

Why does it impress me so,
when in time, I too,
will be long gone?
Perhaps, to know that I am,
is all, and there is evidence
from whence I came
which is strong,
I am immortalized.

  1. a time embedded within your heart now...as you look at this and understand you were just a twinkle in your parents' eyes....
Is that driftwood that anchors the top and bottom? It's truly a beautiful piece...made all that more important as you understand how it beckons you. Isn't it interesting to look at things that belonged to our parents...and wonder what their everyday life was like, really like? I have a tiny tiny statue of a stork holding a baby...I think it's china....that was on my mother's shower cake when she was expecting me. I have no pictures of her pregnant....how I would have loved to see her then.
I enjoyed this post very much. I am a knitter so I especially like artwork that is woven, made of yarn etc.

  6. Is your wall hanging an heirloom, Kathy? It is so unusual. I enjoyed the musing on time in the lines:
‘I exist in a future sense.

    Another tense,
    a timelessness.’

It’s interesting that objects can remind us of our mortality.

    1. Thank you, Kim. No, not an heirloom. Handmade baskets in various shapes made of dried reeds and fallen deer antlers Feathers are added.

  7. There is something so wonderful about handmade things from the past... it does indeed tell a story of where we came from

  10. I like the thought that we are immortalized simply by being a part of a larger weave - not by any of our own actions, thoughts, emotions. We don't have to earn immortality - it is our birthright - very interesting idea, thanks.

  11. It sounds corny, but the best poems are the ones that come from your heart.
