Here to investigate a perfectly
carried out murder in the library
the inspector and usual suspects
gathered to unravel the mystery
Varied characters pointing to others
alibis formed, proclaiming innocence
Twists and turns easy for most astute sleuths
poker faced..cards are played close to the chest
Varied characters pointing to others
alibis formed, proclaiming innocence
Twists and turns easy for most astute sleuths
poker faced..cards are played close to the chest
Detectives have their own style to cipher
the truth.. searching for hidden clues and those
that might be blatantly in one's plain sight
right under Dame Agatha Christie's nose

hahaha...nice...have you ever been to a murder mystery dinner? i used to do one annually for kids that i worked with....pretty elaborate as well...we built settings and had actors that played a part...and they had to figure it out...and search for clues in each scene and in the lines of the actors...was cool...i rather like a good mystery...been a while since i visited ms christie though...
ReplyDeleteOh, I do love a good mystery. Clue was my favorite game growing up.
ReplyDeleteah i love agatha christie..she's such a wonderful writer and if i ever grow up, i wanna be like miss marple...smiles
ReplyDeletefffffun photo!
ReplyDeleteI do love her books, (have read all of them specially Hercule P.) and she is one gifted writer ~
ReplyDeleteAs a child, I read a huge number of her works. The genre is well captured in your poem.
ReplyDeleteYes, let them gather in library.... And it's the butler :-) wonderfully penned
ReplyDeleteI adored AC as a teenager, read all her novels ... this reminds me of Cluedo ... :)
ReplyDeleteI can picture the scene! I am sure Agatha Christie will prevail. Smiles.
ReplyDeletethis is good. I like how each stanza is truly it's own entity, yet works so well with the other two to be so effective as a whole poem. Nicely done. Thanks for sharing with us.
ReplyDeleteI'm a big Christie fan--I've read everything she wrote twenty times and still enjoy it. There's something addictive about a mystery, as your poem tells us so neatly.
ReplyDeleteLike a good mystery, this poem leads us on to a satisfying conclusion. Nice work :)
ReplyDeleteMysteries, like poems, are read through the clues. Like this. *grin*
ReplyDeleteI love a good mystery. My wife gave me a box-set of David Suchet as Hercule Poirot for Christmas, so I have plenty of good mysteries to keep me going :-)
ReplyDeleteYou might enjoy this poem I wrote in honour of Colin Dexter's Morse :-) http://rumoursofrhyme.wordpress.com/2012/01/03/dexters-rules/
Very good mystery writing and my daughter loved
ReplyDeleteA G stuff all of them. Thanks, fun read.
Yes. Brings back memories for me--playing Clue with my younger brother. I like that Fred pointed out that each stanza is stand alone. It's such a fluid read I wouldn't have thought to take each stanza into consideration as a separate entity; reading it that why makes you think a little harder about what is being communicated.

ReplyDeleteMust say reminds me of Cluedo...always loved those fabulous old whodunnits. Such a shame you don't see so many of them now, all a little stylised, and more like modelling shoots now...unlike the dedication of Agatha Christie... nice tribute to the Queen of mystery.
ReplyDeleteI love Agatha, and this is an awesome tribute! Now I just want to talk about her with you, but I would never shut up. The writing here is tight and I love the "clues" back to her work.
